Syria welcomes the return of all the Syrian refugees to their homeland and it is sparing no effort to help create a suitable environment for a safe return and descent life for the refugees, Dr. Faysal Al-Mikdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed.
He made the remarks during his meeting on Saturday with Minister of Social Affairs and Tourism in the Lebanese Caretaker government Ramzi Musharrafieh, who is visiting Syria for talks with Syrian officials on cooperation to facilitate the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
Al-Mikdad clarified that some countries are politicizing the refugee file through misinformation, distorting facts and practicing pressure on host countries.
On his part, the Lebanese minister said that the critical situation in Lebanon and Syria in the light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic and the difficult economic conditions give the refugee file top priority, expressing hope that the two countries will maintain their cooperation to achieve progress in this regard.
The two sides agreed on joining efforts to encourage the refugees to voluntarily return to their homeland and on urging the international organizations not to impede this process
In the same context, Minister of local Administration Hussein Makhlouf met with Musharrafieh to discuss the refugees return.
Following the meeting, Makhlouf told journalists that the past period witnessed an organized return of refugees despite the difficult circumstances that resulted from the coronavirus and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by terrorism supporting countries on Syria to worsen the suffering of the Syrians and hinder the safe return of the refugees to their homeland.
