Palestinian FM: Chapter VII no longer deters Israeli war crimes

The Palestinian  Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has said that Chapter VII of the UN Charter is no longer deterring Israel’s expansionist policy in the Jordan Valley, calling on the international community to do more action to stop Israel’s ethnic transfer of Palestinian population in the region.

In a press statement, the Ministry urged the international community “to act with more responsibility, to treat Israel, the occupying power in Palestine, as a state under the law and not allow it to go unpunished according to international law, as applies to other countries, especially in terms of accountability.”

The Ministry said the occupying state and all its organs are continuing to de facto annex large portions of the land of the State of Palestine, in disregard of the demands by many countries to stop annexation, arbitrary home demolitions decisions and the confiscation of Palestinian land, especially in the Jordan Valley.

It mentioned the case of the Bedouin village of Humsa al-Buqaia in the Jordan Valley, which was razed to the ground two weeks ago by the Israeli occupation army, displacing its nearly 60 Bedouin dwellers.

“Despite the numerous visits made by representatives of the missions accredited to the State of Palestine to these areas, and despite the fact that part of what is being demolished by the occupation was built with international funding…, Israel is keen on maintaining its measures on the ground in a blatant indifference,” said the Ministry.

“Annexation is an official Israeli policy that is actually being implemented on the ground in various aspects and on a daily basis. It is a policy that has never been gone despite claims of suspension or freezing.”
