Syrian-Russian relations are distinguished and deep-rooted: PA Speaker

Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hammoudah Sabbagh has described the relation between Syria and Russia as strong, distinguished and deep-rooted.

Sabbagh, who made the remarks during his meeting on Saturday with Murad Pariv, a member of the Russian State Duma and Head of the Federations of Sports in Russia, said that parliamentary relations between the Syrian People’s Assembly and the Russian State Duma are witnessing notable development.

The PA Speaker expressed hope that more progress will be achieved in bilateral ties, including in the domain of sports, hailing the current fruitful cooperation between the Olympic Council in Russia and the Olympic Committee in Syria.

 On his part, Pariv said that the Russian people are watching with great interest the great success being achieved by the Syrians in all sectors despite the difficulties and the terrorist war facing their country.

He stressed his country’s readiness to support Syria, particularly the General Federation of Sports, through providing training and rehabilitating sport facilities.

He pointed out that an Olympic school is to be opened in Syria. The school will geared towards enhancing sport talents and preparing teams for participation in Olympiads and sport competitions in different parts of the world.
