Al-Miqdad and Lavrov affirm the continuation of coordination and consultations between Syria and Russia at all levels

Damascus, (ST) – Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and Russian Foreign MinisterSergey Lavrov discussed in a phone call on Wednesday the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of developing and enhancing these relations in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The two sides also discussed the results of the meetings that ended Wednesday afternoon in the Russian city of Sochi, according to the Astana format, where the two ministers expressed their satisfaction with what was included in the final statement of affirmation of everyone’s commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria. The two sides emphasized the continuation of work according to this format.

Syrian and Russian sides expressed their strong condemnation of terrorism targeting Syria and stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to confront terrorist organizations that continue their attacks on safe civilians. They stressed that,all agreements and understandings that have already been reached do not include these terrorist groups and that work must continue towards confronting these groups and restoring security and stability in the entire Syrian territories.

The two sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries at all levels.

Minister Al-Miqdad expressed Syria’s thanks and deep appreciation for Russia’s supportive stances in the face of Western campaigns hostile to the Syrian people, as well as in the war on terror targeting Syria with the support of well-known countries.

Dr. Al-Miqdad affirmed that, the Syrian people highly appreciate the true support of the Russian leadership, government and people in confronting terrorist organizations as well as facing economic terrorism imposed on it through unilateral coercive economic measures targeting the basics of Syrians’ lives, especially in this period that the world facesthe Corona epidemic.

Minister Al-Miqdad praised the Russian achievements regarding the Corona vaccine and the adoption of many countries of the world the Russian vaccine, which has proven its effectiveness. He stressed that Syria would like to obtain it to support its capabilities and immunize its people to confront this epidemic.

Minister Lavrov affirmed his country’s continued support to Syria to restore security and stability and restore normal life to all of its lands, stressing the importance of supporting the political process and the work of the Constitution Discussion Committee in Geneva which is led by Syria.”

Lavrov also renewed his country’s position rejecting unilateral coercive economic measures, indicating that Russia seeks to provide more support to Syria in this field, especially the matter of confronting the Corona epidemic and providing Syria with the Russian vaccine.

The two ministers agreed to continue and intensify communication and consultation between them, in line with the developments of events and challenges facing both countries in various files and issues.
