President Al-Assad to the members of the Supreme Council of Local Administration: Decentralization is important and should start through practice and actual participation

Damascus, (ST) – President Bashar Al-Assad met with the members of the Supreme Council of Local Administration, which holds its meetings on Wednesdays, in Damascus.

During the meeting, President Al-Assad stressed the importance of the Supreme Council of Local Administration as the local administration, with all its bodies.It  is the direct link between the citizen and the state.

President al-Assad said that, the issue of decentralization, which will be discussed by the meeting of the council is important and necessary. Decentralization should start through practice and actual participation,  through the role played by governors and the provincial councils in encouraging society and inspiring it to participate in setting perceptions for the problems and crises.

The President   also highlighted to the  members of the Council the importance of studying laws that regulate the work of local administration bodies and setting strict controls in order to limit corruption and combat violations, including those that have a significant effect on the urban system.

President al-Assad indicated that the partnership between the local administration, municipalities and popular activities should not be limited in searching for solutions to immediate problems only, but also developing studies for investment projects, especially in rural areas, in proportion to the capabilities and resources of those areas and achieving an added value for the citizens in these areas.

President Al-Assad indicated also that, the medium and small projects are the ones that establish a real economy, especially in conditions of siege and war like the one that Syria is going through.
