Lavrov will discuss with Pedersen the political solution to the crisis in Syria next Thursday

Moscow (ST):Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will discuss with the special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Syria Geir Pedersen next Thursday, the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Zakharova said in a press conference today that the Russian Foreign Minister will meet on the 18th of this month the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Syria, “noting that during the meeting,” political settlement issues will be discussed within the framework of the work of the constitution discussion committee in Geneva and the results of the international meeting on Syria which will be held in Sochi on the 16th and 17th of this month.

The fifteenth round of Astana talks on Syria is being held in the Russian city of Sochi.

The fourteenth round of Astana talks was held in the Kazakh capital Nur Sultan on the tenth and eleventh of December 2019, and the guarantor states of the Astana process, at its conclusion, reaffirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the continuation of cooperation until the elimination of terrorist organizations in it and the rejection of separatist agendas aimed at undermining the sovereignty and integrity of the Syrian territories.
