Russia reiterates support for the Palestine question

Moscow (ST): Russia has reaffirmed its firm stand in support of resolving the Palestine question based on international legitimacy resolutions.

Russia Today quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement following a telephone conversation between the Russian special envoy for the Middle East, Vladimir Safronkov, and US Deputy Secretary of State Hadi Amre that the Russian side stressed the importance of creating conditions conducive to the resumption of direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. These negotiations should be  under the auspices of the International Quartet with the aim of settling the basic final status issues on the basis of well-known international legal references that stipulate for the two-state solution.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that it was stressed that unilateral steps are not permissible, such as expanding settlement operations, including demolishing Palestinian homes in the West Bank, pointing out that the international quartet parties agreed to hold their meetings regularly.
