Washington expresses concern about Turkish authorities’ use of unjustified violence against demonstrators of the Bosphorus University

Washington (ST):  The US State Department expressed its concern about the campaign of arrests launched by the Turkish regime authorities and the use of unjustified violence against demonstrators of the Bosphorus University students.

Reuters quoted US State Department  spokesman Nad Price as saying at a press conference: ” We are closely following the peaceful protests against the appointment of a new rector at the Bosphorus University and we are concerned about the arrest of students and other protesters”.

The Turkish regime authorities had arrested 159 people during protests in Istanbul against the appointment of new rector of the Bosphorus University who was close to the regime’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

For nearly two months, students, staff members and academics have protested against the appointment of Melih Polo, who is close to the ruling Justice and Development Party, as dean of their university, by a presidential decision, stressing that it is “an undemocratic matter.”
