Guarantor states of Astana track reiterate commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity & territorial integrity

Tehran (ST): The three guarantor states of the Astana track (Russia, Iran and Turkey) have reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, and the need for all parties to respect these principles.

In a statement, the three countries affirmed their readiness to support the work of the Constitution Committee through their continuous participation with delegations, the Syrian delegation, and the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Syria, Geir Pederson, as a facilitator, in order to ensure the effective and sustainable performance of the committee.

The statement stressed the need for the constitution discussion committee to work in a spirit of compromise and constructive participation without external interference.

Last July, the heads of the guarantor states of the Astana process renewed in a joint statement following a videoconference meeting their commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and  territorial integrity, and the continuation of cooperation until the final elimination of terrorism there, stressing their rejection of any separatist plans that violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
