One hundred people injured in clashes with security forces in Lebanon

Beirut (ST): More than a hundred people were injured in clashes between protesters and the Lebanese security forces in the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon, while the Lebanese army  restored calm to the city.

The Lebanese Red Cross said in a statement tonight that its members transported five wounded people to hospitals in Tripoli and treated 97  casualties near the places of the clashes.

Earlier, it was announced that a member of the Lebanese security forces had been injured by a grenade explosion inside the courtyard of the Governmental Sarai in Tripoli, as demonstrations and protests continued in the city for the fourth consecutive day.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that a fire erupted in the municipality of Tripoli after protesters  threw Molotov cocktails and cut off the western route of the Zouk highway connecting Beirut to Tripoli by cars, while the Lebanese army worked to reopen it to traffic.

The Lebanese army expelled the protesters from the Tripoli Sarai building to Abdul Hamid Karami Square and then to the streets diverging from it.

The protesters threw stones, fireworks and grenades inside the Sarai Square, which led to direct damage to the electric generator that supplies the Sarai with electric power, and a large fire broke out in the legal court inside the Sarai.

The demonstrations and protests renewed for the fourth consecutive day in the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon in protest against the difficult economic and living conditions, as the protesters began to gather in Abd al-Hamid Karami Square and at the main entrance to the Tripoli Brigades.

The protests and demonstrations were not limited to the city of Tripoli, as other Lebanese regions, including the capital Beirut, witnessed demonstrations and cut off some roads.
