31 Lebanese soldiers wounded in protests in Tripoli

BEIRUT, (ST)_At least 31 Lebanese soldiers have been wounded during the anti-lockdown protests that took place in the city of Tripoli, according to a statement released by the Lebanese Army Command.

The statement said: “31 soldiers have been wounded after being attacked by a number of protesters with stones, Molotov cocktails, and firecrackers, during the demonstrations that took place in the city of Tripoli on 26/1/2021. Also, military vehicles and gear have been damaged.”

It added that five people have been arrested for causing damage to public and private properties, as well as for inciting riots and assault on security forces.

Investigations have kicked off under the supervision of the competent judicial authority, according to the Lebanese News Agency (NNA).
