Syria demands immediate and unconditional withdrawal of US occupation troops from Syrian territories

DAMASCUS, (ST- Syria strongly condemns the US occupation forces’ daily aggressive practices in Al-Jazira region in the northeast of Syria, stressing that such acts of aggression are a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and of international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Wednesday in a letter to the UN Chief and President of the Security Council.

The ministry’s letter affirmed that Syria demands immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the US occupation troops from the Syrian territories.

“Over the past years, almost daily aggressive moves by the US occupation forces were monitored, including the systematic theft of Syrian resources, agricultural crops and oil from Al-Jazira region, in addition to bringing in huge military reinforcements, logistical equipment, various weapons and military vehicles from Iraq to the illegal US military bases in the countryside of Al-Yarubiyah in Hasaka province via the illegal Al-Walid crossing.” the ministry clarified. It pointed out that these daily aggressive moves are being carried out with complete disregard to UN Security Council resolutions which always stress the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

These aggressive US moves come while the administration of the outgoing US President Donald Trump is getting ready to leave the White House, the ministry stressed. It went on to say that Trump’s administration worked on destabilizing Syria’s security and stability, supported separatist movements with the aim of dividing Syria and preventing a political solution in the country. This administration also provided all forms of support to terrorists and facilitated continuous attacks on the positions of the Syrian Arab Army and its allies in the northeast of Syria and other places and tried to promote lies, through alleging that it is fighting terrorism and protecting the Syrian people.

“The Syrian Arab Republic affirms that what the US occupation forces are doing now constitutes a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, unity and integrity and of international law and Security Council resolutions on Syria, including Resolution No. 2254,” the Ministry said. It added that Syria demands an end to these heinous US illegal practices and calls on the international community to condemn the continuous US occupation of Syrian lands and the imposition of unilateral coercive economic measures that aimed at starving the Syrian people.

Syria also calls on the international community to act immediately to put an end to the US policy of arrogance, aggression and occupation in Syria, stressing that the continuation of these American policies in the coming stage will mean a challenge to the will of the international community and will prolong bloodshed and instability in Syria, the ministry pointed out.

The ministry concluded its letter by reiterating the Syrian state and people’s determination to abort the renewed conspiracy, to end any form of US military presence in Syria, including its tools and agents, to impose the state’s legitimate authority over all the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic and to preserve the homeland’s sovereignty and unity.
