Iranian nationals in Syria cast vote in Iran presidential election

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ The  Iranian community-based in Syria on Friday started casting their ballots in the presidential election of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“approximately 1600 of Iranian nationals ,who are eligible to cast their ballots, will vote in four ballot boxes in Damascus and Lattakia,”said Iranian  Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Riza Shebani .

The Iranian diplomat reiterated his country’s  strategic position towards the region, particularly the resistance axis no matter who will win the elections.

” Iran’s position is based on the rejection of the militarization of the crisis in Syria and that the political solution is the only solution, added The Iranian ambassador.

The polls stations will be opened  until six o’clock pm.

It is worth noting that polling stations in Iran opened at 8:00 local time on Friday and set to be closed 10 hours later.

In addition to choosing six candidates ,Iranian voters will also pick municipal councilors.

There are more than 50 million eligible voters ,with 13,000 ballot boxes in over 60,000 voting stations .The first results are expected early on Saturday.

If no candidate secures 50 percent plus one of the votes to win outright ,a second round will be held a week later.
