Erdogan’s regime issues arrest warrants for 40 Turks over links to coup attempt

ANKARA, (ST)- The Turkish regime authorities have issued arrest warrants for 40 Turkish citizens, including military personnel, over alleged involvement in the coup attempt in 2016, according to Turkish media.

The Turkish authorities also issued separate arrest warrants for 11 people in the cities of Istanbul, Izmir and Balikesir, including civilians, military personnel, doctors and private sector employees, claiming that they have links to Turkish preacher Fathullah Gulen whom the Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan accuses of masterminding the coup attempt.

Since 2016, Erdogan has launched a countrywide crackdown targeting his opponents. Tens of thousands of people have been arrested and dismissed from work in different civil and military institutions in Turkey.
