The lies posted on the page of the US vacant embassy in Damascus come as a response to the call of the UN Rapporteur to lift the sanctions on Syria
The lies posted on the page of the US vacant embassy in Damascus come as a response to the call of Alena Douhan, the Special Rapporteur on the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures on human rights, to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria as they are the reason for the difficult circumstances the Syrians are experiencing, an official source at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Saturday.
Days ago, Douhan, voiced concerns that sanctions imposed under the so-called “Caesar Act” risk exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in Syria, especially in the course of COVID-19 pandemic, and put Syrians at even greater risk of rights violations.
The source said that this US behavior affirms the United States’ insistence to continue with its policy of hegemony, arrogance, unilateralism and stress that the U.S. listens to the voices that fit its reckless decisions in the region.
The source reiterated that the lies and disinformation included in this US statement won’t deceive anyone anymore and they have become a characteristic of the US administration.
The source indicated that Washington and its western allies are no more able to escape their responsibility for the disastrous results of their reckless policies towards the Syrians or towards world peace and stability.
“It is time for the United States to assume full resposiblity for the suffering of the Syrians because by supporting terrorism and imposing unilateral coercive measures that violate international laws they prevented Syrians from having access to basic requirments of descent life, exacerbated the danger of the Corona pandemic and impeded the Syrian state’s efforts to confront this deadly disease.
The source concluded by saying that the outcomes of the US policies amount to crimes against humanity and that the call of the UN rapporteur should be the beginning for holding the US administration accountable for crimes against the Syrian people before the International Criminal Court.
