Iran warns the UN against the consequences of any US military adventure in the Gulf

New York (ST): Iran has warned the UN and the UN Security Council against the consequences of any US military adventure in the Gulf region.

In a letter sent to the UN and the UN Security Council Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations warned against the United States’ military adventures and recent provocative moves in the Gulf region, at a time the administration of outgoing US President Donald Trump nears its final days.

The letter said that in addition to sending advanced and highly sophisticated weapons to the region over the past few weeks, the US has also carried out some provocative military actions, including the deployment of a number of its long-range strategic bombers in the Gulf recently.

It added that such belligerent moves, if left unrestrained, could escalate tension to alarming levels, stressing that the United States will be fully responsible for the entire consequences.

The letter affirmed Iran’s determination to protect its people and to defend its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity and referred to Iran’s determination to respond decisively to any threat.

Earlier,  Iranian  Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif  said that Iran does not seek war but will  defend its people and security as well as its vital interests.
