Patriarch John X Yazigi: We pray for Syria to return as it was, safe and peaceful

Damascus (ST): On the occasion of  New Year, a mass was held in the Mariamite Cathedral of Damascus in Bab Touma, presided over by Patriarch John X Yazigi, Bishop of Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and  the Whole East.

In his sermon, Patriarch Yazigi underlined  the importance of learning the sublime meanings of Jesus Christ’s birth, saying  that starting the new year with prayers comes as a translation of hope planted in us by God Almighty, saying “As Christians, since the early history, we are accustomed  to face all life difficulties, pandemics and wars”.

Yaziji added that we pray for Syria’s peace and territorial integrity, for easing the impact of destruction, in all its domains in this country, and we pray for Syria to return as it was, safe and peaceful.

The Patriarch demanded that the international community to immediately lift the unilateral economic measures taken against Syria because they target people who want to live a dignified life. He also called on Western states to end their terrorist war against Syria.

His Beatitude went on to say that the spread of the Coronavirus all over the world stressed that human beings are invited to unify in confrontation of all dangers and not to join in the race for armament, violence and terrorism.

Concluding his sermon, Patriarch John X Yazigi prayed to God Almighty to protect Syrian people, army and leader.
