Syria calls on the Lebanese judiciary to assume responsibility in dealing with the issue of fire in a camp for Syrian refugees

Syria has expressed its deep regret at the incident of the fire that happened in the Syrian refugee camp in the Minya region.

“The Syrian Arab Republic expresses its deep sorrow about the incident of the fire that happened in the Syrian refugee camp in Hanin, Miniyehregion, which terrified its residents and deprived a number of them of shelter,” an official source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on December 27.

The source added that Syria calls on the competent Lebanese judiciary and the concerned Lebanese agencies to shoulder their responsibilities in dealing with this incident and to ensure protection and care for the Syrian refugees.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Republic renews the invitation to the Syrian citizens who were forced to leave the country due to the unjust war on Syria to return to their homeland.

The source said that the Syrian government is making all efforts to facilitate this return and provide them with the requirements of a decent living in their cities and villages according to the available capabilities.

In turn, the Lebanese army announced the arrest of a number of people involved in the  burning incident of a Syrian refugee camp.

“A patrol from the Intelligence Directorate in the town of Bahnin Al-Minya in Akkar, northern Lebanon, arrested two Lebanese and six Syrians, due to an individual problem that occurred yesterday evening in the town between a group of Lebanese youths and a number of Syrian workers, which soon developed into shooting incident in the town,” the Lebanese Army Command said in a statement on December 27.

The statement indicated that the army units immediately interfered in the incident and conducted patrols in the area and carried out raids in search of those involved in the shooting and burning of the camp, where weapons, ammunition and military equipment were seized in the raided houses.
