Celebrations and lighting of Christmas tree in Cathedral of Lady of Niaah in Damascus

In the midst of a great popular presence and on the occasion of Christmas and New Year, the Cathedral of the Lady of Niaah for the Melkite Roman Catholics in Damascus on Tuesday evening set up a Gregorian recital with the title “Child of the Grotto”.  It was performed by Priest Marcus Deeb and the musician Pierre Lafi.

The recital included various Christmas carols in addition to musical pieces that called for the spread of love and peace and prayers for the return of security and stability to the homeland. Then, it was followed by lighting  the Christmas tree in the cathedral square and a tour of the cathedral scouts in the region during which the members of the scouts presented a range of Christmas musical pieces.

In statements to SANA, Archbishop Nicola Anteba, the Patriarchal Vicar of the Patriarchate of Antioch and the rest of the East for the Greek Melkite Catholics, spoke about the sublime meanings of the glorious Christmas and the message of love, humanity and mercy that Jesus  preached  in order to live a better life in which peace and lasting brotherhood prevail, noting the sacrifices made by the brave Syrian Arab Army in the face of terrorism, which brought joy and happiness back to the days of Eid.

In turn, Archimandrite Naim al-Gharbi said that the birth of Christ invites us to live joy and spread peace among people despite the difficult circumstances and challenges we are facing, praying to God that peace and security prevail in the land of Syria and protect its people, army and leader. He hoped that the birth of Christ would be a prelude to resurrection and salvation Syria from its ordeal and to come back stronger than it was.

A number of people expressed their happiness of the Christmas celebrations, especially the lighting of the Christmas tree and the scouts who toured the roads of the region, wishing that peace would prevail in the country of peace, Syria.
