On the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s holidays, an event (Homeland Tree … a message from Syria to the world) was held on December 12’s evening in the town of Basir, in the countryside of Daraa.
The event included lighting the Christmas tree in the St. George’s Church of the Melkite Roman Catholics in the presence of official and popular figures.
Father Munawar Bakhitan, the pastor of the Church of St. Rev. Gabi Batta, President of the Evangelical Churches Union in Houran and Jabal Al-Arab, stated that lighting the tree is a beautiful occasion through which we consecrate our celebration of the birthday of Jesus, the Messenger of love and peace.
Dima Falouh, Asmahan Hilal and Talib Hilal from Basir locals expressed their joy in lighting the tree with all the meanings of love and peace, hoping that the new year would bring all good and peace to Syria.
Yasser Al-Saadi, Director of Daraa Tourism, indicated that for the second year in a row, a large Christmas tree will be lit in the town of Basir that carries messages of goodness and love to the whole world.
The Syrian Arab Army Orchestra opened the event, followed by the Syrian Bluff Orchestra led by musician Ihab Qutaish, which presented several international pieces inspired by the occasion. The events was concluded with hymns and traditional songs presented by the Al-Farah Choir.
