4th Round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee’s meetings discussed the national principles, refugees’ return: Al-Kuzbari

The Fourth Round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee’s meetings, concluded on Friday in Geneva, discussed several topics including the national principles and the return of the Syrian refugees, Head of the national delegation to the Committee announced.

The issue of rejecting any separatist scheme in Syria as well as the humanitarian file and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people and it’s bad effect on all the Syrians were also discussed, he dded in a press conference in Geneva.

Al-Kuzbari clarified that the national principles, represented in maintaining the national identity and cultural diversity were discussed during the third and fourth rounds of the committee’s meetings.

Al-Kuzbari pointed out that the national delegation’s proposals were all important as they affect the life of the Syrian people, but there was no in-depth discussion of them by the other participating side who proposed issues that are not on the meetings’ agenda and that recieved
no answer because they are set for the next round.

Al-Kuzbari made it clear that the participation of the national delegation was positive as it was open to all discussions.
He pointed out that the fifth round of the committee’s meetings was set for the end of next month during which the main principles of the Constitution are to be discussed.
Answering a question about what happened in the last session of this round Al-Kuzbari said that head of the other side (opposition delegation) breached the code of conduct and procedures, provoking members of the national delegation to make an objection.

On his part, the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen announced in a press conference on Friday that members of the Syrian Mini-Constitutional Committee have agreed on the agenda of the committee’s fifth round’s meetings to be held on January 25th.

He said that over five days, the participants discussed a number of topics which shared a common ground, that hopefully can be built on in coming meetings.

“The meetings were useful. We are looking for points that can be used to make a progress in the coming rounds,” Pedersen said, indicating that the Committee’s next meeting will be held on January 25th, 2021.

He pointed out that the Committee’s work is important as it deals with basic issues relating to the situation in Syria, urging the International Community to help in reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
