Parliamentary committee for the Syrian-Mauritanian friendship to enhance cooperation between the two countries

Nouakchott, (ST) – The National Assembly in Mauritania announced on Wednesday the launch of the activities of a parliamentary committee for the Mauritanian-Syrian friendship to enhance cooperation between the two countries in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

Mauritanian News Agency “Wma” quoted the association’s vice president, Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Sidi Talib al-Nafeh, as saying: “Mauritania and Syria are linked by long-standing relations, strengthened by the common interests and relations of the two brotherly peoples. These relations have resulted in cooperation in various developmental areas, especially in the cultural field.”

Al-Nafeh pointed to the important role that parliamentary diplomacy plays in bringing people together and developing cooperation relations between countries.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Mauritanian-Syrian Friendship, Mustafa Blah Sahib affirmed that, strengthening relationsbetween the two countries has been one of the foundations of the Mauritanian diplomacy for more than half a century. He referred to the areas of cooperation and interdependence between the two countries in which thousands of Mauritanian students gained experience from Syrian universities.

The Chargé d’Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Nouakchott, Mortada El-Gammal considered that the establishment of this committee is a reflection of the depth of the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries. He indicated that the work is underway at the level of the People’s Assembly in Syria to establish a similar parliamentary committee.
