The Syrian Mini Constitutional Committee addresses humanitarian file and sanctions

GENEVA, (ST)_During the second day of the fourth round’s meetings of the committee for discussing the Syrian constitution in Geneva, the national delegation focused on two main national principles related to humanitarian file and lifting sanctions being imposed on the people of Syria.

The national delegation stressed that the humanitarian file must not be subject to the double-standard policy that separates between the suffering of part of Syrians and the suffering the other part and exploit the suffering of the Syrian people in Syria and abroad.

It called on the international community to abide by international laws and charters and to stop investing the humanitarian file.

As for sanctions being imposed on Syria, the delegation made it clear that terrorism and sanctions have been used as weapons against Syria since the start of war on the country to break the will of the Syrian people and to force them to accept schemes that were drown up against the Middle East region.

The national delegation underscored the need to address the issue of lifting these sanctions in any Syrian-Syrian meeting as they have negative effects on the Syrian people.

The Fourth Round of the meeting of the Syrian Mini Constitutional Committee kicked off yesterday with the participation of the Syrian national delegation and other participating delegates.

The third round’s meetings were held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva late last August as part of an agenda entitled “Basic National Principles”.

The first and second rounds were held at the UN headquarters in November 2019.

The mini-committee comprises 45 members, 15 representing the national delegation, 15 representing the Syrian civil society and the remaining 15 representing the oppositions.
