The special assistant of the head of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Council for International Affairs Hussein Amir Abdul Lahian has stressed that the inhuman and unilateral sanctions being imposed on Syria are unjust and must be lifted.
His remarks came during a meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Otto Pedersen in Tehran on Monday.
Abdul Lahian told Pederson that Iran will go ahead with defending the Syrian state and supporting constructive efforts being exerted by the UN to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
He stressed the need of the continuity of the Syrian constitutional committee’s work, pointing out that all parties are responsible for pushing this work forwards.
On his part, Pedersen described the efforts being made to resolve the crisis in Syria as “relatively good”.
