Iran: Israel should immediately join the NPT

TEHRAN, (ST)- Iran has renewed its call for forcing the Israeli occupation entity to immediately join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to subject its nuclear facilities to the comprehensive safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

According to IRNA News Agency, the Iranian Permanent Representative to the IAEA Kazem Gharibabadi said in a statement on Friday during the meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors that the Zionist entity is the only one in the Middle East which is not a member of the NPT or any of the Weapons of Mass-Destruction systems, thereby impeding the globalization of this treaty.

Gharibabadi added that the Zionist entity’s possession of secret nuclear capabilities and its complete disregard for international laws and norms, constitute a serious threat to the security and stability of the world and the region. He reiterated that Israel’s immediate joining of the NPT and subjecting all its nuclear materials, activities and facilities to the agency’s comprehensive safeguards is the only way to confront the current nuclear crisis in the Middle East.
