Arnos: With the passing away of al-Moallem, Syria lost a national figure and a veteran diplomat

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Hussein Arnos said on Monday that with the passing away of the Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem, Syria lost a prominent national figure wholeft a good impression in the hearts of all Syrians, and a veteran diplomat, who defended his homeland, Syria, at international and regional forums and in various fields of political action.

In a statement to media outlets, Arnos added that al-Moallem was the voice of truth in the face of terror and aggression.

Al-Moallem had clear imprints in government work and in efforts to serve the homeland through presenting constructive ideas and proposals in the interests of the Syrian people.

On his part, Minister of Information Imad Sara said in a phone interview with the Syrian TV that Al-Moallem fought diplomatically for Syria to the last breath.

He pointed out that Al-Moallem took part in the recently held International Conference on the Return of Syrian Refugees despite his illness, which affirms that Syria has always been in his conscience, mind and heart.

“Al-Moallem was the epitome of diplomacy and politics and was highly skilled in dealing  with the most difficult situations, not to mention his deep knowledge, high morals and quick-wittedness,” the minister stressed.

In the same context, people in the occupied Syrian Golan extended their deepest condolences to the Syrian leadership and people and to the family of al-Moallem.

They affirmed that al-Moallem was a staunch defender of the sovereignty and independence of Syria and an epitome of patriotism and struggle against colonial aspirations.

“History will immortalize you in the conscience and hearts of all honest and freedom-loving peoples and resistance men as an uncompromising fighter, brave resistance man and a solid defender of Syrian and Arab rights at all forums, a letter of condolences, sent by the people of occupied Syrian Golan, said.
