Damascus (ST): Russian President’s special envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, stressed that the participation of 27 countries and organizations in the International Conference on the Return of Refugees indicates its success, noting that resolving this humanitarian issue will lead to promoting stability in Syria.
Lavrentiev added during the closing session of the conference that holding the conference in Damascus affirms that Syria is waiting for the return of all refugees abroad after it found ways and initiatives to resolve this issue that will give a momentum to the humanitarian life in Syria.
He went on to say that there are many hostile policies that hamper the return of refugees, including the occupation of some areas in Syria and stealing its resources in addition to the unilateral coercive Western economic measures imposed on the Syrian people, which requires unifying efforts and work to confront these acts and eliminate them.
Lavrentiev affirmed that Syria and Russia are ready to provide everything that contributes to facilitate the return of refugees, calling on all countries and the UN to support these measures.
In turn, head of the Syrian Russian Coordination Centre for the Return of Refugees Mikhail Mezentsev affirmed that the conference constitutes a beginning for a new stage to repatriate the refugees and achieve stability on the Syrian territories, and this requires tangible support from international organizations .
He added that many Western states refused to participate in the conference calling on them to come to Syria and confirm for themselves the safe circumstances for the return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland.
