New Yourk, (ST) David Basely the executive director of the world food program and another UN official warn from the aggravation of the food crisis in Yemen a matter which threatens starvation.
France press quoted Basely as saying through the session of the Security Council yesterday that starvation in Yemen is extremely dangerous.
He added that to avoid starvation we need to 2.6 billion dollars in 2021 and we have to move now or people will die. He demanded Security Council give hope to the Yemeni people and not abandons them and listen to the warnings before it is too late.
The Saudi regime continues its violation against the Yemeni since March 2015 leaving tens of thousands of victims in addition to the destruction of the infrastructure especially the health sector which led to the spread of epidemics and diseases.
The Assistant Secretary General of the United Nation Mark Lowcok expressed his displeasure at the lack of a clear vision in Yemen. He said that Yemenis are not suffering from hanger but from starvation. Really I do not understand why not more effort has been done to prevent starvation in Yemen indicating that this country was previously spared from famine two years ago.
Last June the United Nations Development program announced that more than 20 million Yemenis suffer from chronic hunger and are vulnerable to infection from the Coronavirus.
