Israel refuses to release prisoner al-Akhras, who entered the 102nd day in his hunger strike

Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras on Thursday entered the 102nd   day of his open-ended hunger strike amid the Israeli occupation’s insistence not to release him despite his critical health condition.

Al-Akhras went on a hunger strike late last July in protest against the Israeli occupation’s continuous crimes towards the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails.

Media Advisor of Prisoners Commission Affairs Hasan Abd Rabboh said that the commission sent letters to the UN Secretary General, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Foreign Ministers of Russia and China, the EU, International Committee of Red Cross, urging them to immediately interfere to save the life of the prisoner al-Akhras and to press the Israeli occupation to release him.

Al Akhras’s health is deteriorating and he is facing a serious threat to his life. He added that the prisoner suffers from severe fatigue and he began to feel pain in his heart and all over his body. His hearing and speech have become impaired and he suffers from seizures and he may experience a sudden relapse in one of his vital organs.

The Israeli occupation authorities refuse to release al-Akhras despite warnings by human rights organizations about the deterioration of the prisoner’s health condition and their call on the international community to pressure the Israeli authorities to release al-Akhras.
