Paintings inhabited by places and memories … The essence of the of plastic artist Ali Jerwan participation in the Picasso World Exhibition
The houses that store memories in their corners and between their walls are the essence of the three paintings through which the plastic artist Ali Jerwan participates in the World Picasso exhibition in the Spanish city of Malaga, along with 30 Syrian artists and about a thousand artists from different countries.
Jerwan paintings are full of emotion, dominated by the gradations of blue with its combination of other colors.Birds overlap the colors so giving hope and optimism to the viewer.
In a statement to SANA, Jerwan explained that the idea of participating in international art exhibitions is vital and very important, as it supports the plastic movement on the Syrian arena in terms of considering the experiences of foreign artists. He considered that the participation of the Syrian artists in the exhibition was a message to the whole world that “our artist loves life and works to build his country.”
Jerwan indicated that the Syrian plastic art that was on the rise before the war, is still topping the Arab and international scene and has not been marginalized by the war and its consequences, expressing optimism about the distinctive imprint that the Syrian artist will leave in this exhibition because the participating works are distinguished so will prove their existence.
Talking about the spread of the virtual art exhibitions phenomenon, Jerwan said, “It is a free and elegant experience for the continuity of the artistic movement and the continuation of artistic communication between the entire world’s artists and art lovers, as well as documenting artistic works. These exhibitions are also considered a starting point for promoting the cultural scene and encouraging artistic creativity.”
Hope and defeat are present in Jerwan’s paintings by an extended color consistency that attracts the viewer to the technique used in the painting in a way that helped Jerwan build a special artistic personality that he devoted to serving the Palestinian cause.
Plastic artist Ali Jerwan is a member of the General Union of Palestinian Plastic Artists. He won several prizes, including the third prize in the International Jerusalem Day competition. He held and participated in many individual and group exhibitions in Syria. He participated in the global campaign for the “Right of Return” by painting a Jerusalem mural with a group of artists in Beirut.
