Detainees Affairs Authority calls on UN to save life of Prisoner al-Akhras who continues his hunger strike for the 99th day consecutively

Palestinian prisoner Maher Al-Akhras continues his open-ended hunger strike for the 99th day in a row, in protest against the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli detention centers, amid a very critical health condition and a severe danger to his life.

The media advisor to the Detainees and Liberated Affairs Authority, Hassan Abed Rabbo, told Wafa News Agency that the authority had sent letters to the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the European Union and some international organizations concerned with prisoners’ affairs, calling on them to intervene to save the life of al-Akhras and pressurize the occupation authorities to release him.

The prisoner suffers from severe fatigue and high heart muscle pressure. There are increasing concerns about damage to the vital functions of the kidneys, liver and lungs, and he may suffer a sudden, life-threatening setback.

In a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, the occupation authorities refuse to release prisoner al-Akhras, despite warnings from human rights and Palestinian organizations about his severe health deterioration and their request by the international community to intervene to release him.
