Syria receives medical aid from Pakistan

DAMASCUS, (ST)_A plane coming from Pakistan, carrying medical aid arrived on Sunday at Damascus International Airport, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

The agency reported that Pakistan has offered medical aid to Syria with the aim of supporting the Syrian health sector to confront Coronavirus.

The total number of coronavirus infections registered in Syria has reached at 5728, out of which 1976 ones have recovered while 288 others have died.

 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad highly appreciated the aid sent by Pakistan to Syria, pointing out that the Pakistani aid is the biggest one that has been sent to Syria to help it confront the virus. 

 
He saluated the Pakistani people and leadership for their support to Syria not only during the current acute health situation but also in fighting terrorism. 
 
On his part, Pakistan’s ambassador in Damascus Said Mohammad Khan made it clear that the medical aid for fighting Covid-19 [the weight of aid is 25 tonns] is sent within the context of  cooperation between the Pakistani and  the Syrian governments. 
 
The aid will be distributed to hospitals in Syria.
 
Deputy Minister of Health Ahmad Khlifawi asserted the importance of the Pakistani aid in supporting the health sector in Syria, which has suffered from years of war and an unjust economic seige and unilateral measures that have hindered the arrival of a lot of medical items and equipment .
