6235 students participate in the competitions of Syrian Scientific Olympiad

With the participation of 6235 students from the first grade of secondary school from various governorates, the new competitions of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad 2020-2021 began this morning.

The first phase tests were held at the same time in various governorates for students participating in the specializations of mathematics, physics and informatics. Question samples were laid down  by the central scientific committees in the administration of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad. The answer sheets will be corrected in an automated  way .

Malik Hammoud, Director of the Media Office at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, noted that the participation for the current season was limited to the outstanding students in the Basic Education Certificate who obtained 2800 marks and above “.

 

A number of students considered their participation in the Olympic competitions as a first step for success in their life, expressing their hope to reach advanced positions that qualify them to represent their country in international forums. They indicated that the competition is an important experience and an opportunity to highlight the students’ scientific capabilities. This  participation is an opportunity for students to test their scientific potential and mental abilities.

In Homs, Engineer Fadi Morshed, Director of Student Activities at Al-Baath University and the Coordinator of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad in the governorate, indicated that students were distributed in three auditoriums  and 13 halls to ensure the achievement of spatial distancing in compliance with the measures to address the Coronavirus.

Other students said that the exam questions were comprehensive, challenging , and  needed high skill and accuracy.

Rector of Hama University Dr. Ziyad Sultan pointed out that the university has prepared a number of halls to host students participating in the Olympiad, in the Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry, while taking all necessary measures to address the Corona epidemic.

In Lattakia, Dr. Sawsan Ghazal, Director of International, Cultural and Public Relations at Tishreen University, said in a statement to SANA that the precautionary measures to address the Corona pandemic posed a challenge in terms of holding training sessions for large numbers. Therefore, virtual “electronic” training was relied on through social media, in addition to holding training sessions during the weekends for a month in the auditoriums  of Tishreen University, as they accommodate the numbers of students while adhering to the rules of spatial distancing.

Some students from the areas affected by the recent fires in Lattakia showed great determination and will to participate, reiterating  that the fires did not prevent them from attending the training sessions that were held during the weekends.

The Faculty of Letters  in Deir Ezzor, the governorate’s Olympiad coordinator and Vice Rector  of the Euphrates University, Dr. Riad Kharaba, said that the university had taken all measures to address the Corona virus during the test.

In Al-Hasakah, the director of the Euphrates University branch, Dr. Najm Al-Hamidi, said in a statement to the SANA reporter that the university branch took all necessary measures to make the test successful.

The competitions for the new season of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad 2020-2021 are conducted through three stages. The participating student must pass the first and second stage tests to reach the final competitions at the level of Syria to achieve an advanced position and deserve the membership of the national team with his scientific subject.

It is noteworthy that the Excellence and Creativity Authority this year adopted a new registration mechanism in the Syrian Scientific Olympiad competitions, which is via the internet instead of registration through schools and Education Directorates in the governorates.
