Sheikh Mohammad Adnan Al-Afyouni , Mufti of Damascus and its countryside, martyred in terrorist blast

Damascus countryside (ST): Mufti of Damascus and its countryside Sheikh Mohammad Adnan Afyouni , was martyred yesterday evening in a terrorist explosion that targeted his car in Qudsaya town, Damascus countryside.

Sheikh Afyouni is one of the most prominent scholars of Syria and the Islamic world, and he is a member at the Scientific Council in the Ministry of Religious Endowments, Mufti of Damascus and its Countryside, and the general supervisor of the International Islamic Cham Center on confronting extremism.

The Minister of Religious Endowment Dr. Abdul Sattar al-Sayyed said that the explosion is a terrorist Takfiri act that aimed to silence the great intellectual who was an example to be followed in his principled and honourable stands since the very beginning of the terrorist war against Syria.

He added that the religious institutions have been targeted in Syria, because they have been the shield that protects the country against takfiri and extremist thought.
