New York (ST): The UN Security Council has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to respect the new truce agreed upon last Saturday in Nagorno-Karabakh district.
France Press Agency said that the 15 members of the UNSC held a closed-door meeting and renewed call on both sides to respect the humanitarian truce which was scheduled to take effect last Sunday.
Diplomats said that Russia, which is currently presiding the UNSC, was working to issue a statement calling for commitment to the ceasefire and for resuming negotiations between the two sides.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that his country was working with Armenia and Azerbaijan to establish a mechanism for observing ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh region.
