Damascus (ST): With the participation of Syria, the regional ministerial online meeting about the return to school was held via the internet.
The meeting , which was opened by a speech made by UNESCO Regional Office Director in Beirut Dr. Hamad Bin Saif al-Homami, aimed to gather ministers of education in the region and their UN and international partners.
Minister of education Dr. Darem al-Taba’a reviewed the measures taken by the ministry of education during the period of suspending schools last march to confront the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, pointing out that these measures have been taken according to the requirements of preserving the education level in Syria and at the same time ensuring the students and teachers’ health and safety.
He added that the ministry has been working to ensure students’ rights to learn, the requirements of the educational process and follow up the development of the educational system, noting that the ministry has been working to preserve the health of learners and protecting them against diseases through implementing the health protocol in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
He added that the learning loss during the suspending period has been compensated through live lessons via Syrian TV channels.
Dr. Taba’a added that with the beginning of the scholastic year 2020- 2021 on September 13, the number of students who joined school amounted to four million at a rate of 90 per cent in most regions, adding that a campaign for teaching one million child has been launched with the aim of bringing the dropouts back and teaching them through the curriculum B.
