Germany warns Erdogan’s regime against continuing its provocations in the eastern Mediterranean

Berlin, (ST) – The German Foreign Ministry warned the Turkish regime against continuing its provocations in the eastern Mediterranean, after Ankara sent a ship to explore for natural gas, threatening to escalate tension again with Greece.

Reuters quoted the Foreign Minister of Germany, Heiko Maas as saying, prior to his visit to Cyprus and Greece, that “Turkey should refrain from provocations in the dispute over gas in the eastern Mediterranean, stressing that “Germany “is in solidarity with Cyprus and Greece as partners in the European Union”.

The Turkish regime’s navy announced, in a new provocative step, the day before yesterday that the Aruj Reis ship would carry out work in the region, including the south of the Greek island of Kastellorizo, from October 12 to the 22 of the same month, in a letter sent to the Naval Warning System (Navtex) .

Maas added that, “if new Turkish exploration operations for gas take place in these marine areas in the eastern Mediterranean, this will be a major setback for de-escalation efforts.”

The Turkish regime continues its provocative steps in the eastern Mediterranean, where it revealed earlier, through a map it published, its ambitions to explore for gas in areas off the coast of Greek islands, and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has warned that his island is facing a very dangerous situation due to the provocations and violations of the Turkish system of international law and its violation, the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
