DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Saturday affirmed that all the ministries and their affiliated bodies were put on high alert to respond to fire alerts and to extinguishing the fires raging widely in the forests and agricultural lands of the countryside of Lattakia, Tartous and Homs.

The government bodies in cooperation with the local community, unions and the Syrian Arab Army will spare no effort to enhance the extraordinary efforts being exerted to fight and control the fires and prevent them from reaching residential areas and to minimize the damage as much as possible.

During a Cabinet meeting, Arnous reiterated the need to provide necessary support for the locals who were forced to leave their houses because of the fires, including basic needs such as food, medicine, residence and medical aid.

He called for forming committees to start assessing the damage caused by the fires and determine the appropriate means of intervention to ease the suffering of the farmers. He also urged putting police units in all fire-hit areas on high alert and called for boosting the readiness of Tishreen University Hospital to receive the cases that need treatment and for consolidating the response of all services bodies in the affected areas.
