Syrian Cartoonist Raed Khalil won the Special Prize at the First International Nicolas Competition, which was held in Pogradec, Albania, with the participation of 50 countries from around the world.
Khalil’s painting, which won the competition, entitled “The Balkan Smile” , depicted the prevailing pattern of international relations and how the countries of the world deal with each other in the context of negotiations, in a bitter ironic and critical style.
“the award is the result of long diligence, like all other prizes it means a lot to me as a Syrian artist within an international competition that included many cartoonists from several countries,” Khalil said in a statement to SANA.
He indicated that his painting falls within the scope of his artistic project aimed at highlighting social, humanitarian and national issues and positive and negative aspects in life and society in the world.
It is noteworthy that the artist Khalil was born in 1973 and he is a cartoonist at Al-Baath newspaper and the Syrian Arab TV. He has participated in many international exhibitions and won many awards and certificates of appreciation. He is the editor and supervisor of the Syrian cartoon site and director of the International Caricature Festival-Syria since its inception where he won many local, Arab and international awards.
