Damascus (ST): The Indian embassy in Damascus held a reception on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi at the Dama Rose hotel in Damascus.
In his speech, the Indian ambassador to Syria Dr. Hefz al-Rahman said that Gandhi’s instructions are based on two main principles : the strength of credibility and non-violence which have nothing to do with deception, hatred and fanaticism.
He added that Gandhi has always been present with us to remind us of the strength of credibility, peace and love and through his assertion that non-violence is the weapon of the brave.
Dr. Hefz al-Rahman also referred to the great impact of Gandhi’s principles on the Syrian people stressing the continuity of India’s humanitarian projects in Syria.
In turn, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal al-Mikdad said that Ghandi’s calls for tolerance , non-violence and solving problems peacefully have become an example to be followed by all peoples in the world.
He added that throughout its war on terrorism, Syria feels for the Indian people intellectually and culturally in their peaceful struggle to achieve independence.
Other speakers highlighted the great deeds of Gandhi and his sublime values.
