Palestine’s delegate to the UN calls on the international community to stop the violations of the occupation
Geneva, (ST) – The permanent representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva, Ibrahim Khreishi called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take practical steps to stop the violations of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and to impose measures consistent with the rules of international law and recognition of the State of Palestine with its capital al-Quds (Jerusalem).
According to Wafa News Agency, Khreishi stressed during his speech at the 45th session of the Human Rights Council “Item 7” on the state of the human rights in Palestine and the other occupied Arab territories, on the need to enhance the work of the Office of the High Commissioner and protect its workers and allow them to move and reside in Palestine, in order to strengthen the principle of accountability, justice, guaranteeing human rights and protection of international law.
Khreishi called on the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General of the United Nations and all countries to put pressure on the occupying power to allow the mechanisms of the Human Rights Council to exercise their duties and to allow the special committees of contractual agreements bodies to visit Palestine.
Khreishi asserted that the Palestinians categorically reject the occupation’s plans to annex any part of the occupied territory because it is considered a flagrant violation of international law and undermines the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Khreishi pointed out that the occupation authorities are using the international community’s preoccupation in facing the danger and repercussions of the Corona pandemic, escalating their attacks on the Palestinians, their sanctities and properties, and targeting farmers and fishermen in the Gaza Sea, in addition to the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip 13 years ago.
Khreishi clarified that the Palestinian people are still subjected to arrest campaigns, as the occupation forces have arrested more than a million Palestinians since 1967, 224 have been martyred in their prisons due to torture, medical negligence and systematic killing. He indicatedthat more than 5,700 Palestinian prisoners are still in the occupation prisons, facing difficult health conditions and forms, in addition to the continued occupation of the illegal and immoral detention of the bodies of 66 martyrs, which calls for the international community and all international institutions concerned to urgently intervene to release prisoners, especially patients, women and children.
