Armenia: Turkish warplanes support Azerbaijani forces in attacking Nagorny Karabakh province

YEREVAN, BAKU, (ST)- Battles between Armenia and Azebaijan continue at the contact line in the Nagorny Karabakh province.

Armenia stressed that the Turkish warplanes have supported the Azerbaijani side and participated in the attacks on the province.

The Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in remarks to Russian media outlets on Wednesday that the idea of holding talks with Azerbaijan under Russian supervision is premature, adding that “it is not appropriate to talk about a summit between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia while fierce battles are still going on”.

He made it clear that his country is not studying the possibility of deploying peacekeepers in the Karabakh province amid intensified fighting in the region.

“This issue is not on our agenda,” he said.

He indicated that he had no discussions with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on a possible Russian military intervention in the conflict in Karabakh.

On his part, Representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook account today that “Azerbaijan is launching airstrikes in the northern direction of the contact line and is using Turkish-affiliated drones and multifunctional F-16 fighters.”

On the other hand, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that its forces managed to encircle a group of Armenian soldiers on the contact line in the Karabakh region.

The Russian RIA Novosti news agency quoted the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense as saying that “a military operation is underway to eliminate the Armenian forces besieged by artillery fire in order clear the area on the axis of Agdara Tartar.”
