A newly opened medical center in Qamishli to provide free chemotherapy to cancer patients

The Syrian Society for Treating Children with Cancer has recently opened a center to provide free chemotherapy and medicine to cancer patients in the city of Qamishli.

Locals in the city welcomed the new step, as patients will no more need to travel to Damascus or other provinces for treatment.

Dr. Danish Mahmoud Haj Ibrahim, a tumor specialist at the Center, told SANA reporter that opening the center is an important achievement that will help alleviate some of the patients’ suffering.

He said that the center is equipped to provide healthcare to cancer cases and it can receive 12 patients on a daily basis.

Haj Ibrahim  stressed that continuous coordination between the center and the al-Biruni Hospital in Damascus and the Tumors Hospital in Lattakia is very important to follow up on the health situation of the patients in the center and to make the treatment process a success.

Majeda al-Baker,  a nurse, said that opening such a center is a positive step that helps alleviate the cost of treatment in other Syrian provinces.

Dr. Faten Sultan, whose father has received the first chemotherapy dose at the center, said opening the center is a key medical achievement within the current difficult circumstances in the country, especially in Hasaka. The center will ease the locals’ suffering that results from travelling and treatment expenses.

In mid September, the Syrian Society for Treating Children with Cancer opened a similar center in Hasaka city to provide medicine to cancer patients.
