Asghar Khaji, Pedersen discuss efforts to find political settlement in Syria

TEHRAN, (ST)- The Iranian Foreign Minister’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji and the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed current efforts to solve the crisis in Syria.

In a phone conversation on Saturday, the two sides reviewed ways to achieve progress in the political process and to continue the work of the Constitutional Committee on Syria in order to attain a political settlement based on respecting Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Last week, Pedersen and the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin also discussed efforts to find solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a statement on Friday, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva Gennady Gatilov announced that the constitutional committee on Syria will hold a new round meetings as soon as possible.
