Damascus, (ST) – Under the patronage of President Bashar Al-Assad, the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday commemorated the 79th anniversary of the Internal Security Forces Day, in honor of the martyrdom of the Syrian Parliament’s guards who were martyred on May 29th, 1945 while defending the Paliament against the French colonialism.
In a speech during a ceremony held by Ministry of Interior on this occasion, Minister of Interior, Major General, Muhammad Al-Rahmoun, conveyed the greetings, love and appreciation of President Bashar Al-Assad to members of the Internal Security Forces and to the proud Syrian people on this occasion that is dear to the heart of every Syrian.
Major General Al-Rahmoun reviewed the heroic epic of the Internal Security Forces, the police and gendarmerie protectors of Parliament who were martyred in defense of Parliament against the French colonialists, when they refused to salute the French occupation flag, setting an example in defending the dignity of their people and the sovereignty of their homeland.
Minister Rahmoun added: “What the heroes of the Parliament garrison did proves to the whole world that there is nothing more precious than the homeland, and today we celebrate their good and living memory to derive from their struggle the determination and strength to serve our people and our homeland”.
Also on this occasion, the Minister of the Interior, Major General Muhammad Al-Rahmoun, accompanied by a number of Internal Security Forces officers visited the Martyrs’ Hall at the People’s Assembly. They recited Sourat Al-Fatihah for the rest of the souls of the martyrs of May 29, 1945.
They met with the Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh who congratulated the men of the Internal Security Forces on their day. He stressed the greatness of this occasion and its symbolism in the lives of the Syrian people.
During the meeting, Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh praised the courage and heroism of the Parliament’s guards at that time. He pointed to the current role of the Internal Security Forces in defending the homeland alongside the brave Syrian Arab Army, as Syria was able to triumph over the forces of evil, aggression and terrorism thanks to the sacrifices of the righteous martyrs.
In turn, Major General Rahmoun expressed his pride in the memory of the martyrs of the Parliament Garrison that defended Parliament and were martyred, pointing out that this has been a lesson in patriotism and redemption. He indicated that the loyal sons of the Internal Security Forces continue the path of martyrdom and will do their best to preserve the security of the homeland and the citizen.
