65 teams participate in the experimental phase of the finals of the Syrian Collegiate Programming Contest at Al-Baath University
Homs, (ST) – The activities of the 14th national finals of the Syrian Collegiate Programming Contest (SCPC 24) weee launched today at Al-Basel Auditorium in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Al-Baath University in its experimental phase, with the participation of 65 teams from public and private universities and the Syrian Virtual University.
During the opening, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim stressed the importance of this scientific competition, which has a special character in terms of competition, excellence, distinction, creativity and the development of its level to become an annual event awaited by university students, which establishes a real programming culture that supports university curricula.
Minister Ibrahim pointed out that despite the war that Syria went through and the siege imposed on it, the will of young people was stronger to represent their country in various forums at the regional and international levels and achieve distinguished results and advanced ranks, which was positively reflected in the global ranking of our universities.
For his part, the President of Al-Baath University, Dr. Abdul Basit Al-Khatib, referred to the preparations made by the university to host the competition, secure its requirements and ensure its success, noting that the competition contributes to demonstrating the skills of the young generation and highlighting their capabilities that enhance their role in raising the level of information technology in Syria.
The Director of the University Programming Competition in Syria, Dr. Fadi Murshid stated that the participating teams were qualified as the best teams in the first stage of the programming competitions held at the university level.
Dr. Jaafar Al-Khair, the regional coordinator of the programming competition in Syria pointed out that the competition, in its fourteenth season hosted by Al-Baath University, is the largest in the history of the competition, with the participation of 65 teams from about 20 Syrian public and private universities.
He added that it is considered the most important university event in Syria, as it is one of the oldest competitions in the world. Syrian universities have become among the most important participating universities in the Arab region, as the competition deepens programming skills among students, logical analysis of issues, and integration of sciences and knowledge to reach original solutions.
The Head of the regional scientific committee supervising the competition, Muhammad Abdul-Wahhab clarified that the competition is held within the rules and conditions of managing the global competition, and includes programming issues in which each team consisting of 3 people competes on one computer for 5 hours to solve the largest number of issues in the fastest time.
A number of participating students from public and private universities affirmed their readiness to enter the competition with high morale and competitiveness, noting that the competition supports their programming thinking and helps develop their skills in logical analysis and solving problems in a systematic and programmatic manner, and activating the spirit of teamwork within the team.
