60 orphans honored in Lady of Damascus Church

Under the banner ‘Together on the Path of Childhood’, a ceremony was held Tuesday to honor 60 orphans  in the Church of Our Lady of Damascus on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year.

The ceremony was held by the Charity Al-theqaleen Center and the Syrian Phoenix Initiative and it aimed to offer psychological and moral support to children, member of the Phoenix Initiative ShukriMikdad told Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

 He underscored the need to offer all forms of support to those children to be active in society.

On her part, Director of Al-theqaleen Center Rehab Asaad underlined the importance of the activity in bringing smile to children’s faces and in supporting them to contribute to homeland’s reconstruction.

Head of the Church, Father Sami Husni, thanked the organizers of the activity that helps focus on tolerance, amity and mercy among Syrians under the current circumstances.

The activity included lunches and gifts for orphans.

Last December, The Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate in Damascus held a charity celebration for orphans on the occasion of Christmas.

The celebration, held in the’ Mona Lisa’ Restaurant in Bab Touma district with the participation of 80 kids from orphanages, included entertainment program for children plus two speeches given by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Rima al-Qadri and Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II.
