On May 28th, an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale struck northern Pakistan, without reports of human or material losses.
“The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 223 kilometers in the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan,” the Pakistani news agency quoted the Pakistan Meteorological and Geological Survey Department as saying in a statement.
It is noteworthy that the residents of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and the provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir felt the seismic waves.
An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck Islamabad last January, with no reports of damage.
Pakistan is one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world, as it sits on top of the Eurasian tectonic plates which are known to be subject to frequent seismic activity.
