5th Edition of Youth Cinema and Short Films Festival to Kick off Friday

DAMASCUS-The fifth edition of the Youth Cinema and Short Films Festival will kick off on Friday at Dar Al Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus.

52 films from 5 countries in addition to a number of Syrian films will participate in the Festival.

According to SANA, the Festival is held by the Ministry of Culture and the National Film Organization in cooperation with Dar Al Assad and will continue till May 3.

 A number of artists and workers at the film sector will be honored during the Festival, including the actresses Amal Arafah, Suzan Najm Eddin, Carmen Lubbos, and Director Najdat Ismael Anzour.

During the Festival, 29 films will be screened for the fifth season of the Youth Cinema Support Project where they will compete for 6 awards, including the Panel’s award whose winner will be entitled to direct a short film professionally produced by the Organization.

The festival will also include feature films of the second millennium that won international prizes, which will be screened at al-Kindi Cinema.

Meanwhile, the short professional films competition includes 23 films from six Arab countries, namely Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia and Oman, and will compete for 3 awards for best film, best director and best screenplay.

A number of Egyptian, Tunisian and Lebanese artists will also attend the Festival.

The Festival will be accompanied by a series of seminars to be held throughout its seven days.
