530 beneficiaries of the second camp for prosthetics

Damascus (ST): The second camp of prosthetics for wounded Syrian Arab Army and persons with disabilities, launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Indian Embassy in Damascus, concluded today at the Vocational Rehabilitation Institute for People with Disabilities in Damascus.

The camp was implemented by the Mahaweer Indian Association for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, in partnership with the Syrian Step Association for Prosthetics and the Social Welfare Association, Excellence in Orphan Sponsorship, and included beneficiaries from different governorates.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim said that the camp showed the importance of participatory services in providing services to the community, especially for the injured groups who were affected by the terrorist war that Syria was exposed to, pointing out that the relations between Syria and India are distinguished in various fields, and work is underway for many plans to implement in the future, both in terms of health services, securing medicines and scholarships.

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Muhammad Firas Al-Nabhan indicated that 584 upper and lower prostheses were provided to 530 beneficiaries, pointing out that the ministry’s plans focus mainly on the affected groups and the war-wounded by providing aid and preparing programs in cooperation with the civil society to reach the largest number of beneficiaries.

For his part, Chargé d’Affairs of the Indian Embassy in Damascus Satinder Kumar Yadav explained that preparations for the camp began 6 months ago in coordination with all parties concerned with the installation of the prostheses in the two countries, pointing out that India will continue to work to provide aid and joint cooperation in all fields, especially humanitarian.

He indicated that more than 20 thousand scholarships were offered to Syrian students.
